rev:text	Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich's Italian restaurant was buzzin on a Sunday night despite the moderately high prices. Most of the dishes that we wanted to order were already out (it was only 7:30pm!) so we settled for our server's recommendations. We started with her salad recommendation. I didn't expect THINLY shaved Porcini mushrooms and arugula salad with THINLY shaved parmesan tossed in EVOO and aged balsamic vinegar. Such a plain jane appetizer, it's really not worth the $17 price tag for salad. However, the grilled octopus with borlotti marinati in a spicy limoncello vinaigrette was too good to be true! Especially after the disappointing salad starter, it was great to have this dish to savor over. The pasta dishes were good, although not quite solid. My beef cheek ravioli with black truffles and crushed duck liver was exactly what the doctor ordered! (not THAT doctor, I'm talking about the doctor for the soul! ha!) I love foie and I love black truffles so it wasn't a surprise that I was going to LOVE this dish. The bf's pacherri with clams, mussels and shrimp cooked in a tangy tomato sauce was great, although the pasta wasn't cooked through. I like al dente but some pieces were still raw. Service definitely needs improvement, while our busser kept up with the refilling of water, delivering dishes, etc. I would like to see our actual server pass by more than one time and a "is everything perfect?" question tossed our way. While the grilled octopus appetizer is a must try here, there are other Italian restos at the Venetian that are more worth your money.
