I was skeptical about the quality of a hotel restaurant but pleasantly surprised by J & G!
The ambiance is sophisticated and the view is beautiful. If you can sit by the window it is especially panoramic. The noise level is low and the crowd subdued. It got a little loud in the bar but hey, it's the bar!
Solid wine list and extensive cocktail list. They carry Buckler's NA which is an indicator of their attention to detail and diner preference.
She had the Caesar salad and I had the pork belly appetizer. Both were excellent but the pork belly was incredibly flavorful. The mix of flavors is interesting and very good, very good!
She had the Parmesan crusted chicken and I had the filet. The chicken was good though a bit dry. The steak was excellent and served with a sampling of house made sauces that were very interesting in and of themselves. We shared a side of au gratin potatoes that were rich, creamy and just incredible.
We skipped dessert but they have an extensive after dinner drink and dessert menu.
What needs to change to make it a 5 star restaurant you ask, well the servers were constantly reaching over us. They apologized each time but kept reaching all the way across us to retrieve dishes and glasses, not sure why but it was annoying. The service was jerky or kind of disconnected. There were long stretches when we couldn't get anyone's attention and short stretches when we couldn't have a conversation without someone interrupting us or reaching across us. The food makes it all worthwhile though, outstanding!
