Oh, how Macy's reminds me of the brilliant Brit-com "Are You Being Served?"
Formerly the venerable Kaufmann's, Macy's took over the entire chain in 2006, and not much has changed since then. Everything appears to be where it always was. The Arcade Bakery is still in existence (see a separate review for that) as is the candy counter (9th floor?) and the in-house restaurant known as the Tic-Toc (I haven't been there in years).
It's rare that I've ever bought anything other than apparel here, but when I have, they've always had something I've wanted, and I've always been helped by their attentive, easy-going staff.
I know I've been on this public lavatories kick lately (see my Subway reviews), but Macy's has one spic-and-span men's room available on the 3rd (?) floor behind the escalator. If ya've ever gotta go, and you're not sure where, try Macy's if they're open.
Macy's is a wonderful relic from a by-gone era when people dressed up and went Downtown for their department store needs, making a day of it, getting their shoes shined (one can still do that at this Macy's), grabbing a bite to eat, and spending more time browsing than buying. Blame Suburbia for leaving nothing but Macy's standing.
