  • I have stayed at a hotel on the Strip twice in my life. This one was that second time. My friend visits Las Vegas often. She had enough points for a free stay at Luxor. She was kind to let me tag along. I was in the city a few days before she flew in. She crashed at the hotel that I was at for a night and then we moved over to Luxor. Parking at most hotels on the Strip is free. We parked and then rolled our luggage into Luxor. It can be a fair distance, depending on how crazy the hotel gets. You may want to consider dropping your luggage off at the entrance and then park, provided that you aren't by yourself. The check-in line was long. We are pretty patient people, so we chatted. I admired how cute the person's Mickey Mouse luggage was in front of me. We finally got checked in. The person at the check-in counter was helpful and friendly. She even let us know where the booth was to get show tickets, as that was the next thing we needed to do. Luxor is an older hotel. My friend was saying that the elevators are slanted as you ascend. It makes sense, as the hotel is a pyramid. Our room was quiet. Our view wasn't great. The window was tiny. Then again, we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room other than to sleep. We had horrible TV reception. It was to the point where I reported the issue and a tech person came up to troubleshoot. It got reported some more and a day later, it was working again. I liked the room. It was comfortable and housekeeping did a great job keeping it clean every day. I loved the pyramid-shaped soap. My friend told me to keep one as a souvenir to take home. Sure enough, we got a new one next day. Nice! Naturally, this place is Egyptian-themed. I liked the hieroglyphics on the closet and the Sphinx smack in the hotel lobby. If you don't have a car, you have plenty to do around the area on foot. There are many eateries, such as Pyramid Cafe and the buffet. There is also the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay, which is practically attached to Luxor. You have three different Starbucks cafes, the casino floor, and a theatre to take in a show. We saw Criss Angel's show and it was incredible. Everyone was friendly and wonderful during our stay. I wouldn't mind returning here again. (174)
