  • The first time I've ever had straight up malicious service. I've had bad service, I've had incompetent service, but tonight I had malicious service. I came here with a few friends to watch UFC 202. I order a pitcher for $14 dollars, and I pay with a twenty. The waitress hands me back 3 toonies, and before I can decide how I want to tip she leaves. I decide I'll give her a tip either at the end of the night or when we order another pitcher if we're want one. Later, she comes and aggressively tells us that service wasn't included in the prices and that we should be tipping her. I was taken aback, and was totally surprised at her just demanding that we tip her. To be clear, I always had the intention of tipping her and I didn't at this moment because I did not know how I felt about the service I was getting. However, I understood where she was coming from; she's the only waitress on a busy event night. I feel kind of bad and decide that I'll order another pitcher and I'll tip her $6 dollars for a $28 total stay. When she passes our table again, I give her my order and my twenty. She comes back with our pitcher, and then she just tosses a single toonie and immediately turns around and walks away. I paid $20 for a $14 pitcher and I got back $2 in change. She decided to tip herself. I always had the intention of tipping our waitress, and in fact I was going to tip her more than the amount she decided to straight up steal from me. I was too pissed to have a level-headed conversation about it with her or a manager so I decided the best idea would be to just leave. If you're visiting Montreal for the first time, then I would recommend avoiding this place. The service was terribly unwelcoming and petty. Montreal has plenty of other bars that won't make you feel like you don't belong there and cheated. For the owners/employees reading this: There are much better ways to remind people about gratuity other than demanding that we tip. Management should staff more waiters/waitresses on busy nights. Short changing people is petty and scummy.
