1hour we waited in line to eat here. Was it worth it? Hell yeah. This place is on fiyaahh. Well not literally but their pan roasts are. It's all about the pan roasts.
It's a small bar in the Palace Station that seats about 20 people or a little less. There were two people working their butts off nonstop, so be patient. From what they said, there's always a line no matter what time of day and we watched some diners being rude because of the wait which was definitely uncalled for. But the people took it in stride.
We waited an hour at around 11:30pm which I feel like was peak time since everyone was out and about and gambling. I was hungry and tired. Also a bit annoyed since people were sitting there talking story after they were done paying their bill. You could clearly see people were waiting in line. Just plain rude.
They have specials from 1am-9am:
oysters on the half shell $10
wine glass $5
bud light draft 16oz $3
By the time we sat, we qualified for the specials. The oysters were simple and huge!
So this place has what I like to call comfort food all made from scratch. They have various types of gumbo, pan roasts, pastas, etouffe, bouillabaisse, cioppino and steamed seafood like clams and mussels. But of all things, really you need to try the pan roast.
The pan roast is fresh seafood served with brandy, cream and tomato. It comes with a scoop of rice and they're made in individual pots right before your eyes. They work so fast and make so many at one time, it's amazing.
I got a combo pan roast with shrimp, lobster and crab. I'm glad that there were no shells. You can tell them how spicy you want it. I can't handle spice so I said mild and no spice (like a 1 or 2 on a scale of 10). Well, just to let you know, it was spicy and I needed another scoop of rice and beer to help me. It wasn't unbearable but the spice was there. But I knew it needed to be for the flavor. My boyfriend got the Palace pan roast which had shrimp, crab, chicken and andouille sausage. He got it at like a 7 and he loved it.
The portion is a pretty good size and two people could share if you're not super hungry. But there's a $5 charge on shared entrees. The combo pan roast was $23.99 which was worth every penny to me. They were so nice that they boxed it up for me to go since I was so full of beer and rice. They boxed it so well and saran wrapped it so it didn't leak. Next time I'll try the bouillabaisse or jambalaya mild. I'm sure it's freaking amazing as well!
