| - I'm here to express my dismay towards Smith's Food and Drug for their lack of customer service and extreme disregard to the community, and country we live in. Yesterday, I was volunteering at a church helping make care packages for our soldiers deployed overseas. Something very near and dear to me considering several people I know, including my husband, just deployed overseas to fight for our country's freedom. The church received over 10,000 donations, many of those including person hygiene items because that is what these soldiers need. Realizing that we needed to pack items like body wash, toothpaste and shampoo and conditioner- we needed plastic bags. I took the initiative to run to Smith's to pick up gallon size bags, nearly 300 of them for over $20. After my purchase, I asked to speak with a manager to see if I could get a stack of plastic grocery bags so we could group items together, offering to pay for the bags. After speaking to two different managers, I was not given an answer and told that the store district manager would have to call me back. Several hours later, after over 250 care packages were made, I received a voicemail from one of the managers whom I had already spoken to. She let me know that the manager denied my request for the "donation" due to budget and that I should try another store he recommended. Smith's Food and Drug is owned by Kroger who has annual revenue of over $100 billion dollars!! According to NJ.com, plastic bags cost grocers 2 to 5 cents per bag. Did I mention that I told them I would PAY for the bags? I am completely disgusted with how Smith's handled the situation, and I guarantee you that my family as well as the families of soldiers I know will no longer be taking our business to Smith's. Thank you for your lack of support, and God bless our troops!
