  • In homage to its predecessor, Fresh and Easy, I'll start by saying Natural Grocers is a fresh and easy way for North Vegans and even non-Vegans to check out organic food and supplements. Holy no cow...(no butcher department here), there are aisles of supplements that your local grocery might not carry. If you have a chronic condition needing blood sugar control, reducing inflammation, to dementia...you can find it here. Psst...try organic turmeric with bioperine (an active ingredient in black pepper) for all three... On this last visit, I came in to look for one thing...yams. I went to Smiths down the street on Christmas Eve at 2 PM in a cold and rainy day, and they had none, even canned ones. But an easy drive down Simmons, and easy to park, I walk in and there they were. They were the biggest, fattest yams ever, (2-3 lbs each) even the lady behind me commented, "You have the biggest yams I've ever seen"" To her, I would've replied, "You're so fresh, but I'm not easy." I instead said, "I hear they grow them even bigger in Texas".. I also found some decent bok choy which I always put in soups. Yes, it's true that the produce section is small, but given the distance from local growers, they do a decent job. I also found a package of Erythritol, the corn based sugar alcohol used in Truvia that really does taste like sugar but has a very low glycemic impact. I also use Stevia, but it's less bitter than Stevia. The cool thing is, it's listed as non GMO....now dig this: 95 per of all corn grown in the US is GMO. So, a 1 lb. package at $7 is an incredible deal. I didn't get any attitude from the cashiers as the other yelpers have gotten. They did put my stuff in a small box in lieu of a plastic bag. But I live in Orange County, CA where grocery stores cannot give one use plastic bags anymore. So, I would buy one of their bags but next time, I'll bring my own bags. Not as easy as free, but it's a fresh idea whose time has come.
