Marriott Yorkville was great. I have had an on-off relationship with Marriotts but this one was particularly good. When I go to Toronto the most important thing for me is access to the subway since I seldom bring a car. Of all the hotels I can think of this has the best subway access -- only steps from the hotel door and access to both the NS and EW lines. (Even the Royal York, which has a pretty convenient subway access, only gives you one line).
The pluses:
1) Location -- proximity to subway is terrific. And Bloor Yonge location gives you the museum, upscale Bloor Street and jam-packed Yonge Street. Also, a good sized (high-end) grocery next door for essentials.
2) Staff was super friendly throughout the whole hotel --- cleaners, waiters, everybody would always smile and say hi whenever I came by. Staff was also very efficient and helpful.
3) Room was very comfortable -- Great bed and bedding; very quiet; clean; nice bathroom; proper desk chair at the desk.
4) An empty fridge (not one all jammed up with mini-bar crap)
The other things (not really minuses, just coulda been better):
1) Internet (wifi or wired) is not free -- about 14 bucks a day.
2) Lobby is functional but not opulent. Does not scream "Hey, I'm staying in a high-end hotel."
Overall, a great hotel. Made even greater by the fact that I paid about half-price through a Hotwire booking (which I have just learned is owned by Expedia).
