| - This is the closest Best Buy to my house and have been going here for years. Bi-annual phone upgrades, televisions, laptops, etc. Typically the wait times here - especially for cellphones is quite outrageous (expect to be here about 3 hours). This location is BEST for anything that you can buy on the spot and leave (no services, avoiding geek squad and avoiding deliveries).
Story #1:
For my mother's birthday I decided to purchase her a laptop (price 499.99), the Microsoft Office yearly subscription ($59.99) as well as a setup service ($149.99) from Geek Squad (which they promised would include the setup for Microsoft, as well as any software that she would want to see setup on her computer [skype, whatsapp, etc]). The order was placed on Sunday; Tuesday I received a call - which I missed because I was at work - saying the laptop was ready. I called back the following day (wednesday) and asked them to double check. The sales associate I spoke to said the laptop was not setup yet however would be later that evening (I confirmed I would be coming around 8pm). Something came up and I went the following day on Thursday instead. Upon coming to the store and waiting in a lineup by Geek Squad for 1/2 hour (I was already fidgeting because I had to leave for the airport), I find out the laptop has not been setup. The girl at the counter starts scurrying around me and avoiding my gaze because I'm late for a flight and my mother's birthday is the following day. Im in a rush so I ask for the laptop and a refund for the setup fee. The sales associate refunded me ONLY $50 and forgot to enclose the Microsoft Office key with the laptop as well (I did not have time to check because I was both angry and in a huge rush). Her birthday has since passed and obviously its not the same as giving her a fully setup laptop. Conclusion: Geek Squad cant even do the job you've already paid them to do and neither will they do it on time. Mothers birthday ruined - I have to go back and try to get my money back!
Story #2:
Geek Squad is a joke - Ive been paying for cellphone insurance via them for years and when I have my phone break they send me a replacement phone (identical) through the mail within which they instructed me to use the same postage to send my phone to them. When I signed up I thought it was a great deal but when they sent me the phone; they had it locked to Fido (im with Rogers) and could not use it with my SIM. When calling them, they said they will only send me another one with Rogers compatibility when I send them back the Fido-locked device along with my own broken phone AND they charged my credit card on file for the full amount of the device and would not give it back until they received both phones. It took over 4 months and talks with 15 people over the phone (and i had to send them both devices and get packaging for my phone as well on my own dime) to finally send me the correct device and was stuck using an ancient phone in the interim. And yes, they held the full amount of the phone (over $1000) on hold on my credit card while I needed to pay my bills. Conclusion: do not waste your money on geek squad as they will only cause you more harm than good.
