| - I've been a patient here for a few years, and my wife has been for the better part of a decade. Originally our experiences were good but have gone downhill; we will be looking for a new doctor now.
Earlier this year I went in for a nasty sinus infection, and walked out with hundreds of dollars in worthless labs and tests (EKG, kidney ultrasound, etc) because she was concerned my blood pressure was elevated. She hardly even acknowledged the original reason for my visit. When I returned for a followup on the medley of pointless tests she not only blew off the original concern (the blood pressure, which was back down to normal) but launched into a lecture about diet and weight, and how I was at risk for "Dysmetabolic Syndrome X" due to my weight and diet, which would put me at risk for Pre-Diabetes which would put me at risk for Diabetes ... it felt very much like lecturing and being talked down to rather than any genuine concern for my well being. They wanted to schedule me for some kind of dietary counselling sessions and when I declined they followed up with several high-pressure phone calls trying to twist my arm into signing up for the counselling sessions.
My wife as well has felt that her concerns when visiting are being brushed off in favor of talking about diet and weight, and are constantly offering her the latest and greatest in prescription medications that can help with weight loss. When she recently cancelled (yet another) panel of lab work they had arranged, they called and left a very snide, passive-aggressive voicemail to the tune of "Since you cancelled we are going to assume you have a new primary care physician, please inform us who they are so we can forward your records to them, we're marking you as an inactive patient." Wow!
Between that and certain policies (you'll be removed as a patient if you miss your annual checkups, exorbitant fees for missing an appointment that would make predatory lenders blush) we feel less like patients and more like customers. If they want to treat us this way, we'll be finding a new PCP, yes.
