Last month, I visited Calgary for a week with my family, and we stayed at the newly opened Days Inn & Suites Airdrie, as we wanted to stay in a place that had a kitchenette.
Now that I have a 10 month old, my hotel room needs to be functional more than anything. I need to sterilize his bottles, sometimes prepare his food, refrigerate his food, and more... so having a kitchen to prepare these things while travelling is a crucial part of our trip.
When I found the newly open Days Inn & Suites Airdrie, I was eager to try it out because of its kitchenette options.
We requested a crib when we booked our room, as our baby boy, 9 months back then, needed one. The crib was all set up when we checked into our room, and I was very happy with the kitchenette!
The kitchenette was really well equipped for full on cooking, though I didn't do much cooking during our trip. I had ample space to set up his bottle warmer, his bottles, baby food, and other things. The refrigerator worked well to keep his food/milk chilled, along with our water and other drinks. I used the pots to boil water for sterilizing his bottles. There was no separate kettle as there was a separate Keurig machine for coffee and tea, but as there were pots available for me to use, clean too, it was easy to sterilize his bottles.
Beside the kitchenette was a good sized table with 2 chairs which provided more space for our baby stuff, and also a place to feed our baby.
Our bed was extremely comfortable; the mattress wasn't too soft nor too hard, and the sheets were all very clean and fresh. Having more than enough pillows, hubby and I both had good night sleeps (when we could - our baby kept waking us up throughout the night...).
The rest of the room was quite straight forward; the desk, an armchair, TV, and a drawer chest which we used to store our clothes for the week. The drawer was very clean and well made. Each of us used a drawer and it was perfect.
Onto the bathroom, one of the most important features of a hotel room (in my opinion).
I really loved the mirror. In fact, I wanted to take it home. The two light settings were very nice, and having the dim setting really helped especially at night when the baby was sleeping. The sink area was also wide enough for both hubby and me to get ready in the morning, and the pressure and temperature of the water was great. The King Bed with Kitchenette sadly lacked a bathtub, which would've been a nice addition. It was difficult giving my son a shower as I was more used to giving him baths. Aside from that, the water pressure was okay; I personally would've liked it stronger but that is just my personal preference. There was no lack of hot water, nor clogged drains... all in all, the shower was fine.
Overall, our week long stay at Days Inn & Suites Airdrie was fantastic.
The breakfast buffet was quite nice, with hot & cold options, which included different egg dishes (scrambled, cheese omelet, etc), meats (sausages/bacon), waffles, hash browns, toast, fresh fruit, and more. It was relatively easy to find options for my infant son as they had boiled eggs, toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, and oatmeal. Coffee was available in the breakfast lounge 24/7 which was a plus.
Service and housekeeping was always great; the housekeeper left us extra garbage bags for my son's diapers, and the dishes were done when our room was cleaned. Though we didn't get to use the fitness centre or the swimming pool, I saw many people enjoy them.
I wish there was a bathtub in the King Bed with Kitchenette, as that would be my only negative? comment about our stay.
