| - One of the most intimidating things about getting my car serviced has been admitting to myself that I don't know nearly enough about my own vehicle.
Fortunately, coming to Active Green & Ross is - yay! - a pretty pleasant experience. Although I think a lot of mechanics in the GTA have been upping their customer service standards, it can still be kind of overwhelming (for me, anyway) to get through everything and understand what's going. I won't speak for all women, but I'm kind of a stereotype when it comes to cars: I don't know shit.
The staff here have always been very thorough when it comes to explaining the results of their courtesy 30-point-inspection, as well as completely no-pressure. I've been shown exactly what particular parts of my car looked like from underneath and I've always gotten patient answers when I rattle off multiple questions.
I've been helped a few times by Amir, who has always been very thoughtful and friendly. All the staff know their stuff and have no problem explaining it to me in easy-to-understand terms (without making me feel like a total idiot.) That's kind of a skill in itself: you don't want your customers leaving feeling like they were treated in a condescending manner in any way.
I do agree with other reviewers that waits can be long if you walk in. But, like many things in life, calling ahead can do wonders. Make an appointment, drop off your car and go kill some time in Pickering Town Centre for a while. I strongly believe that they take longer because they don't rush things as much as some other places I've been to. On the downside, this can be frustrating when you're trying to get in and out as fast as possible, but if you want things done properly, spend that extra time.
While some of of their repairs are reasonably priced, there are still quite a few that seem a little steep. Fortunately, I haven't felt that pressure to commit to repairs and replacements right away. I've instead kept the printed diagnostic and used it as a base for other places to get better quotes, as most people do.
While you may find cheaper prices for basic things (like oil changes) elsewhere, I'd still recommend AG&R if you feel like there's something about your car's performance that is bothering you. A lot of things get caught in their diagnostic and it's already included in the price of your package. You don't have to actually get everything/anything repaired there if you don't want to.
Overall, decent pricing and excellent customer service (and, yeah, free coffee from their Keurig!)
