| - This place is pretty cute and it has a really nice outdoor sitting area (although there's a really cute park, Sonja's park, across the street that's got some preeety good sittin for when you've got a pie hankerin'). Inside, however, is somewhat of a nightmare.
Why oh why is the inside of this place always so confusing and congested? It's not any particular oversight or incompetency of the staff. They're pretty sweet and great. The layout is a little tight for moving things along, though, and herein lies the problem I think. Going from the cluttered cue to picking up drinks/food at one counter and finding fixin's for your coffee/tea and cutlery at another is a little too much. And unfortunately, I've had a few happenstance or careless accidents happen to me here with people bumping into me and spilling my drink. Hum. They serve a pretty high volume and the awkward tables and different counter service stations make it a bit uncomfortable and crowded.
Once you actually order and settle down with your food/drink unscathed then you get to enjoy some pretty frickin good pie. I love the pecan pie, its dreamy. It has a very interesting fluffy texture different from standard buttertart-type fillings I've tried. So nice. Sour cherry is a great bet if you don't love sweetthings.. its delicious! The sandwiches I've had here are decent but not great at all for the price and location (not when the cheese shops and delis nearby make wicked sandwiches for a few bucks.) I like that they offer spicy mayo on the sandwiches, but I'm a total dirtbag sometimes and a sucker for that junk. The avocado sandwich has a generous amount of avocado! I've had a soup here too, cream of broccoli, and i thought it was kinda nice but relied a bit much on salt and heavy cream for its flavour.
Stick to the desserts, stay on guard inside for renegade elbows and wayward pie-eyed patrons who might jeopardize your snack mission, and eat outside.
