  • I did my homework, looked up the spot price of gold, then did some checking about where I could get the best price for my unwanted old gold jewelry. After reading the web page info, and seeing that Brownlee CLEARLY advertise that they pay 100% more than local refineries and pawn shops on [precious metal scrap] I thought they'd at least be competitive. Unfortunately, the ad is untrue - at least at this location - and they offered me HALF of what the spot price of gold is for today!!! I fully understand that they have to make money by recycling scrap gold, but I was not prepared to be flat out low-balled after all the hype on TV and the sensatonal claims on the website. Overall, between the uninterested and dismissive staff (verging on being rude) and the absolute falsehoods with which they are luring people in to sell gold (at half the price that it's worth) this is NOT the place to go if you want to sell your unwanted/old jewelry at a FAIR price. Save your time and go elsewhere if you want to be treated with respect. Just to clarify, they claim to pay 100% more than any local refineries or pawn shops, when they actually offer only HALF the day's spot price. Bottom line, the only people making 100% is Brownlee - by buying your scrap at half spot price, THEY are the only ones making 100% profit since they'll sell your gold at near spot price. They get 1 star for a clean, organized store but it's clear that they are making a fortune on folks who don't know any better when they go to sell their scrap gold. Helluva racket for Brownlee, but really bad business for anyone expecting to get what Brownlee advertises they will give, 'cause it ain't happening! What's scary is when I randomly mention Brownlee to a friend, the first words out of his mouth were, "They are so crooked!" Ouch! I should have asked sooner! The "Rock Doc" is more like the "Chop Shop" with the customers getting the sharp end of the stick! Avoid this place if you want a fair deal and want to be treated with a modicum of respect, because they WILL rip you off if you haven't done your homework! PS: Want to sell your gold to an honest buyer who will actually pay a fair price? Check out Cascade Refinery on Park Road in Charlotte - they paid me more than TWICE what Brownlee offered! Very nice folks, too - no snobs here! Thanks, Cascade!!
