| - New year, new you, right? Time to tackle new life challenges and grow as a person. How about challenging yourself to not crap your pants at Escape Games? How about confronting your fears that may include darkness, claustrophobia, loud and sudden noises, and overall ominous atmosphere? How about tackling a room where the only information given is "???????" and the difficulty level is displayed as: "¯\_(?)_/¯"?
That doesn't sound like a regular escape room. Aren't those just small rooms with a couple locked boxes, sticky notes and cheap padlocks? Oh ho ho noooo...Escape Games Canada is a top-tier, big budget escape experience. Not only are there amazing designs that span multiple spaces and have lots of surprises, it's the little details that count. They have storytelling videos, voice acting, ambient noises, everything to create a truly immersive experience.
Booking is straightforward online and you pay once you're there. Each room is $27 and gives you an hour of fun, unless you finish faster of course. You can see the record times and approximate success rate on their screens. Best to make reservations and get there early as this place is popular and you can always play board games in their lobby. Don't want any late, flakey friends to cut into your limited problem solving time.
I tried two rooms: Crossroads and The Unknown. I don't want to reveal anything but let's just say Escape Games mixes horror with solving puzzles very effectively, if you couldn't tell from the creepy smiley monsters out in the lobby. The Unknown is the room with only question marks in its description. All I'll say is, it was awesome, and unless you have a pre-existing heart condition or are pregnant, DO IT.
