I've been by this event a couple times over the years and it is a pretty neat concept and honestly who around the south doesn't like BBQ? The event was held over at the NC music factory and had plenty of parking and space for the vendors and contestants to spread out. They also had a stage set up which had a rock band blasting to a mostly empty gravel lot at the time I was there(mid day). The food was delicious as ever and the beers were decently priced. The only kinda/sorta downside is that it felt like there just wasn't a lot to do if you were just there on a "tourist" level. After you walk the grounds, saw everyone cooking, browse the sort of limited supply of commercial vendors who were allowed in, there wasn't really much else to do. The friends I was with ended up heading over to some of the other bars in music factory to carry on the party from there after a little over a hour at the BBQ festival.
