| - I have reviewed this clinic in the past , but I want to give them an updated one. Although I have used them extensively in the past, especially for my foster and rescue dogs, I have not been to this clinic for almost 2 years. Due to a chronic health issue, I retired early and my limited income plus the illness forced me to cut way back on foster and rescue. The one dog I still had, only needed routine maintenance during this time and I had been taking him to a low cost spay-neuter , and wellness clinic in my neighborhood. But I have had a new puppy for the last week and he suddenly presented with multiple bald, red patches this am. Because money is so tight, and I still have the option to return him to his original owner, I was reluctant to get an exam done today. I called Matthews Clinic and explained the situation, because I am concerned that something like this in a puppy so young, will mean long term chronic allergy RX, which is beyond my budget. Dr. Meadows called me back and spoke to me at LENGTH about the various possibilities and treatments for what this might be. (It was understood by BOTH of us that she was in no way diagnosing without seeing the dog-just giving me some of the most likely causes and possible outcomes based on my description of him and his symptoms.) Her clinic did NOT get one penny from this, and as I said I have not actually gone there with a dog in probably 2 years-my maintenance business has gone to the low cost clinic during this time. The staff at Matthews also knows this and have been very understanding instead of offended that they were not getting my business during this time.
As usual, they CONTINUE to go above and beyond with trying to assist owners in maintaining healthy pets, while conserving money when possible. It is rare these days to find ANY veterinary practice that puts the well being of the pet and the financial ability of the owner in a place of importance, instead of simply trying to milk the most money they can from every veterinary situation! But Matthews Animal Clinic remains one of the rarest of rare!
