  • I'll start by saying Dr. Grace seemed very nice and we all really did try to get along, but I sincerely wish we had just gone to another dentist at this point. My wife and I had gone in for routine cleanings, and from the very beginning there were problems. The office staff ran me around in circles about billing the wrong insurance that ended up with me having to pay much more than originally quoted because, well what do you do? This is after having to call my insurance company, pay the difference to upgrade to the plan the dentist office would take, and then back date my plan for the month I got my work done. Convenience is the only reason we went back to them after that at all, a mistake we'll never repeat. Then the doctor gave my wife two (and we've found out, unnecessary) crowns. The first crown was too high, she went back to fix it twice, but it was too late, and the nerve was already damaged. So they had to drill through the crown for a root canal. That's when they figured out that it had been improperly placed all along, like my wife had been trying to tell them. So the whole thing had to be cut off and replaced. The second crown was still giving my wife headaches when we moved to a new city, so we ended up coming back to town and stay in a hotel just to see Dr. Grace because we'd already paid them for the crown, which still didn't solve the problem. Now our Dr. in LA has told us that my wife still has pain and infection because the same thing has happened as before and their crown has killed her nerve. The Dr. kept asking the phrase, "Who did this to you?" Which is a really unsettling choice of words to hear from your doctor. So he's got to drill through the crown for yet another root canal; and our insurance now will only cover stainless steel crowns, and since my wife is a petite blonde, and not a pirate, we'll be paying upwards of $600 for a porcelain one if her current crown cracks. So that's our Smile Shop Dental experience; half a dozen calls to my insurance company, hundreds (literally) of more dollars because of the staff's mistakes, a hotel room, 2 crowns, two killed nerves, and a partridge in a pear tree. Those are the facts, and I could tell you all my opinions about how the whole environment and staff was very frigid, gloomy, and careless, or I could explain just how angry I am at seeing my wife cry at the physical pain in her mouth and the fact that she has essentially lost two of her teeth due to their negligence; but I'm really just tired of thinking of this place. Those are the facts, it's up to you if you think it's a good idea to go there. Sorry to leave such a scathing review guys, but is this in any way acceptable? Would you put up with this? It feels awkward having to post this because we actually saw them so often we got to know them a little, but this was one of the worst experiences of our lives at this point, and it's still not over. Never again.
