| - Admittedly I first came figuring it would feel like a place out of the "Fallout" games -- as though it were some haunt in New Vegas that still carries that vintage 1950s feel that held up following the Great War -- and, in truth, it DOES have that sort of ambiance. This mere fantasy trumped any other reason to go (that it's the oldest freestanding bar in Vegas, Rat Pack hangout, etc).
If only they served Nuka Cola and Sunset Sarsaparilla and played songs off Mojave Music Radio (but not "Johnny Guitar," please!). Sigh.
Drinks here were decent, delightfully under $10 apiece. Signature cocktails included drinks made with mezcal, habanero, ancho chilies, basil, mint, and so many different fruits. The F-Bomb (apparently the "National Atomic Testing Museum's Official Shot") contains Fireball Whiskey, Fernet, and caffeine, priced at $7. I'll have to try the Smoked Melon (mezcal, habanero, lime, watermelon, saison for $8) and Hunter S. Smash (Old Crow, Aperol, lemon, ginger, mint, bitters for $8) next trip.
I was also grateful the crowd here is NOT of the party-boy douche majority you find all over Vegas. It's a chill atmosphere and not crazy loud. You can grab a drink and actually have a conversation without shouting your throat hoarse.
The mushroom cloud art and the old radioactive testing site signs really lend to the "Fallout" look I mentioned. Their sign out front looks like it belongs in New Vegas with its glorious neon. The jukebox they've got (did it even work?) was the old kind that played records.
