One of the thing that I look forward to most with all of my trips to Snakes & Lattes (and I go there quite often) is the short walk east to Greg's Ice Cream. I don't consider my S&L day over until I can grab a half scoop and try a new flavor at Greg's - regardless of how cold the evening is or how tired my travel companions are!
Though labelled as a half scoop, the portion really looks like a scoop - I personally can't tell too much of a difference. I find it's the perfect amount to thoroughly enjoy an ice cream without tiring of the same flavor over the course of eating it. Rummaging through my (almost consistently pleasant) memories of ice cream flavors I've ordered, I recall:
Ginger - it's perfect in the summer - absolutely refreshing, not too sweet whilst not too strong of a ginger heat to it. Little specks of ginger gives a pleasant texture on the tongue. Not for everyone - I've force fed many a friend my share of ginger ice cream, to mixed results. I herald it as absolute favorite, nonetheless - it's the only flavor I've ordered more than once.
Star Anise - A bit of a stronger spiced flavor than ginger, it's pleasant but seems to be something I would rather have a spoonful or two, than an entire cone or cup full.
Green Tea - I wish it was slightly less sweet to have the tones of the tea itself come out more vividly, but it's still quite enjoyable and much better than what is served in the majority of Japanese restaurants in Toronto.
Ask the person behind the counter behind the counter for some samples if you are feeling adventurous about what to pick or just want to try different flavors - one of those odd mixes may become your new favorite!
Overall, my only real complaint would be that I would honestly only stop by when I'm in the area. I'd come in and I'd enjoy the ice cream, but I never feel drawn to make a trip and get some. I feel that Greg's is an amazing detour when you're close by but not so much a place you'd decide to travel to on a whim.
