  • I welcome meat coma wholeheartedly when I dine at Gaucho. Their sauces are phenomenon (Chimmi and Ajo are my favorite). I probably spent 25% of my dinner time contemplating about how to take some sauce home. So standard procedure: you can always expect a long line at Gaucho, except when it is raining on a random week night. We waited about 20 minutes at 6:30 PM on a rainy week day. Here's how the line works: The line is for ordering food. You are only allowed to order if they have a table for you. For easy sharing, my party opted for no sandwich. For starters, we got the chicky and beefy empanadas. They are two-bites-and-done empanadas, so if you love empanadas then be selfish and get your own. Knowing all the meat we were about to consume, we ordered the only non-salad vegetable on the menu: the mushrooms. They were glazed with sauce and soft to the bite. For the main courses, we ordered the lamp chop, ribeye, and NY strip (All small at 6 oz). We ordered the meat at medium rare but the steak all came out a little over medium. However, the sauces made all these problems go away. The lamp chop was medium-rare and it was not gamey, thumbs up. I would love to come back and try the flank, but we had a pretty amazing spread. The special of the day was sopa de mariscos: tomato-based soup with assorted seafood (clams, shrimp, mussels). It's a great broth to dip your bread. Oh, and this place is BYOB! Apparently many restaurants are... guess we are still learning about Pittsburgh as we go.
