  • Coming to the area from out of state, my friend and I weren't sure where we wanted to stay, so we waited until we were in the area to try to call local hotels. I always stay at Hampton Inn hotels if available. While on hold waiting for the staff member to check with a manager to see if they were able to give a discount for the Cleveland Clinic, a young woman picked up the line and asked if she could help me. I quickly explained why I was holding. The next thing I know the line rings and a voicemail picks up for the management. I'm confused, but leave a message and hangup and redial. The same young lady answers this time. I again explain why I was holding and asked her why she transferred me. She acted as though I was speaking jibberish and without explaining what she was going to do, put me on hold. By this time we are only a mile from the hotel so we decided to just go to the hotel. As we approached we were completely taken aback by the chaos in front of the hotel. There were cars going in every direction trying to figure out where to park. It was a mess. We end up parking in front of the building in a little pull off and getting screamed at by taxi drivers! We enter a tiny lobby and there were no other persons inside the lobby area besides a young lady behind the desk. We ask her if she is the person whom we spoke with on the phone, giving her name. She agrees. For some odd reason she asks, multiple times, "Are you Michelle?" I explained, at least twice, that I wasn't that person but the other that she has just spoke with on the phone. This young lady looked at me like I was from Mars and speaking Japanese! She couldn't understand that simple statement of "I was put on hold by someone else that was asking a manager a question and you picked it up and transferred me to a random management voicemail." Just then the manager walked in. Evidently she was out of the building. I thought I was going to finally get somewhere. I quickly tried to explain the situation. She also looked at me like I was from Mars and speaking Japanese! At this point I think I'm in the flipping Twilight Zone! I literally just drop my head on the counter. I'm getting incredibly frustrated and upset. All I need to know is 1. Can I rent a room? 2. Do they give a discount to people going to the Cleveland Clinic? (FYI, most local hotels do...). It really wasn't that difficult. By this time there are about 4 other couples waiting behind us. It had only been about 5-6 minutes, but there was a ballgame being played down the street so it was evidently a very busy area. A middle-aged male (I will NOT call him a man because he is not one!) directly behind us, yells out, "Why don't you just leave!" I was completely shocked! Who does that?!?! Then some old fart in the back yells out basically the same thing! What men yells at two women, let alone obviously suffering women (we were asking for a discount for the Cleveland Clinic so it's pretty clear why we were staying in the area, it sure as hell wasn't to go to a damn ballgame!)?!?! NOT ONE WORD FROM THE MANAGER. In fact, she STOPS helping us and starts checking in the ass that just yelled at us!!!! I was completely mortified, disgusted, angry, and close to bursting into tears! Like I said, it had only been a matter of 5-6 minutes. We were not being nasty, we were not doing anything except trying to conduct normal business. I'm assuming they were drunk. But it doesn't make it right. The manager should of asked THEM to leave. But I will say this, we ended up leaving and staying at Comfort Inn - Downtown. Ahmed was awesome. He was so sweet and walked us up to the room to make sure it was what we wanted. And it was a lot cheaper!! I WILL NEVER STAY AT A HAMPTON INN AGAIN BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT, UNLESS I GET A PERSONAL APOLOGY FROM THE OWNER OF THAT HOTEL AND THAT MANAGER. I know some people may say it's childish to hold this against all Hampton hotels, but I figure that if their employees are that inept, the owners are that inept. I own a business and my employees are an extension of myself. If my employees EVER made that big of an error, I would hope they would immediately rectify the situation either themselves or by immediately giving me the opportunity to do so. Its been a week. Nothing. So this is why I've decided to post. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.
