| - Duo is just a wonderful place. I'm only sad I didn't ever visit this place when I actually lived in Markham. Bright, clean decor. Wonderful staff. Really cool espresso machines. Delicious pastries.. oh god. If you have to try just one thing, get the apple croissant. They are like crack, but better. Thinly sliced sweet apple layered on top of a bed of custard, surrounded by perfect, flaky buttery pastry. (They seem to sell out of these before all of the other 'croissant' type pastries, so come early if you can!)
I tried two of their other, fancier pastries when I visited. The lemon tart and the pearl. The lemon tart was amazing.. I love lemon desserts, so I may be biased, but this tart has the perfect amount of tartness. The filling is creamy and has a perfect consistency. The shell of the tart is not too thick and buttery. The dessert named 'pearl' is a pâte à choux filled with mango pudding and fresh mango pieces, then topped with mint cream. When I saw the dessert in the case, I was intrigued but also afraid the choux pastry would be crunchy and slightly hard. Not the case; you can trust all the pastries here are SUPER fresh and delicate. It was like eating a cloud. Such a wonderful dessert, I highly recommend this one if you like mango.
To drink with this, I decided to try their full-leaf rose oolong tea.. They sold some of their teas jarred so that you can take them home. Despite having tons of tea at home, I ended up getting some of this to enjoy at my place. It is floral, delicate and amazing with these kinds of desserts. I can't wait to come back to Duo. New fave.
