  • I failed my own rule of never, ever going to someone without a personal recommendation. But, after an accident trimming my own bangs, I figured that I really needed 'professional' help, and that I might as well get the rest of my hair cut at the same time,as I only really wanted a trim, and how difficult could that be? I was a little unsure of my hairdresser, who was uncommunicative and didn't seem to understand what I was saying. Luckily, I had photos of exactly what I wanted, so I showed them to him and he seemed to understand and said he could do it. And then everything went to hell in a handbasket. We're talking slamming my head against the sink while washing my hair, taking off 5 inches more of hair than I wanted, and then insisting on drying it with a metal round brush and scalding my scalp with it. When I screamed in pain, he ignored me. Eventually, he went to work on my bangs. I told him Bettie Bangs (U shaped bangs) needed to be done with clippers, not scissors, which he grudgingly agreed to use... and then started cutting them straight. At this point, I told him to get away from my hair (this time, he could apparently hear me, unlike the screaming). Another hairdresser (I think the manager) came and took over from him and was horrified. My bangs were now two completely different lengths, and the hair in the back and sides were apparently not the same lengths either. 30 minutes later, she'd done all the salvaging she could, but my bangs were still not even (and definitely not the shape I wanted), but she told me they WERE even, but just didn't look it because 'your eyebrows aren't the same height' (this argument only works if my eyebrows are over an inch in different heights, which isn't at all true and meant I had to trim them myself when I got home) , and I'd lost another two inches of hair in the back to even things up, although there were still bits that weren't the same length as others. The angle that they cut my hair at also caused the ends to split on many hairs. She apologized again, and told me she wouldn't charge for the haircut, especially after hearing that my scalp was singed, and said that I should come back in two weeks for a free bangs trim to even it up the rest of the way. While I appreciate this, it didn't compensate for the bad cut or the way my head stung from the scalding for the next 3 days. I'm never ever going back!
