I make it a habit to shop at independently owned stores, especially those that carry local products and pieces by artists and artisans. And this place has a darling selection of gifts: beautiful hand-made gems, whimsical art, inspired toys, nice collection of storybooks. But it really does have terrible service as others mention. I don't expect (and don't like) to be fawned over in a shop, but the woman I assume is the owner can be quite rude. The turning point for me was when I watched the owner/staff snap at a very quiet and well behaved child of about 5 for looking at a children's book. Can you imagine! A children's store where children aren't welcome. Kind of pitiful, even if she was having a bad day...
For similar gifts I like to go to Type Books across the street, Scooter Girl, Treasure Island Toys, Planet Kid, or Kid Culture.
