  • This is the first time I've written a review wishing that no stars was an option. I stayed at this hotel for three nights for a work-related conference and can't think of a single thing that went right during my stay. The original price for my room was $289, but the conference rate was about $170. What do you get for all that money? The bad: - CHECK IN. The staff seemed to be tag-teaming check-ins - one staffer would check someone in, then walk away from the desk. Another staffer would appear and check the next person in. Rinse, repeat. No surprise, my coworker and I got completely different "welcomes" and information - they told me about the restaurants and parking (I didn't have a car, but my coworker did), and they told her about conference registration and check-out procedure. -WIFI. Connectivity was terrible. I would get logged in, get 5 minutes worth of work done, and then lose my connection. It happened with multiple devices at different times of the day. Business travelers need steady WiFi. - FOOD. We had two plated lunches with our conference. The first meal was a cold chicken and (we think) risotto. The second was a tough piece of meat over something that had a similar texture as the risotto from the day before. There were two restaurants attached to the hotel, but both seemed over priced, and we found some amazing options off-site thankfully. We did check out the City Lights roof bar, though, which was overpriced and manned by two very inattentive bartenders in trendy these-are-so-casual-they're-not-supposed-to-look-like-uniforms uniforms. The ugly: -BATHROOMS. I get it. The hotel is packed. Our conference had about 600 people and wasn't the only one at the hotel. But you would think the hotel would take a look at the bodies to toilets ratio and put extra coverage on the downstairs and lobby restrooms. The same nasty, clogged toilets from day 1 were in the same state on day 2. -BEDROOMS. The rooms were well furnished, and I appreciated the extra built-in outlets on the desk and night stand (including USB plugs for your phone), but my first room didn't have AC (NO AC IN JULY?!). My second room came with (very noisy) AC as well as a large, random wet spot on the floor (nowhere near the AC or bathroom), apparent water damage on the base boards near the bathroom, a towel rack that threatened to come off the wall and fall into the shower, and a shower drain that looked like something from a Tales from the Crypt episode. -PARKING. Ridiculously overpriced ($20/day to park in a small, weird lot on the side of the building), and the key card exit never worked. Every time we left the property, we would have to press the buzzer to get assistance. At one point, the hotel actually had someone manning the gate - but just like the staffers at check-in, this person would let a few cars out, then run off, leaving the rest of the cars in line to wait for his return. The unforgivable: - NO AC. A hotel in the south that doesn't have WORKING AC in JULY shouldn't be open for business. My first room was SPG Executive level on the 14th floor and it wouldn't dip below 80 degrees. Heat rises and the AC just didn't work. They moved me to a room on the second floor that had AC, but it sounded like a 747 was in the bed next to me, so I didn't get much sleep. But it wasn't just the bedrooms that were hot - in every conference room, people were fanning themselves and sweating profusely. To cool off, you either had to go outside or next door to Le Meridian. Ridiculous. Get it together, Sheraton.
