| - Short review: Keep looking. They don't keep their schedule (ever), have a huge problem with any pets, and just don't do a great job overall. Get what you pay for, pay someone else! And never hire a cleaning company with no reviews. That means no one was satisfied enough to rave about the business. Bad sign.
I used HouseSpouse for over 6 months. It was a disaster from the start, can't believe the time and money I wasted.
You will only see Jude, the owner, when she comes to give you an estimate. After that, you are at the mercy of whatever college students she has hired for that week. But Jude will cash those checks quickly, that's all she cares about.
When I agreed to the cleaning ($30/hr x 2 people for 2 hours), extra for the 'deep clean,' Jude gave me a Friday slot at noon. I thought that was great! Have a clean house for the weekend. I only had that slot for the first visit. I really should've fired them after the deep clean. I was promised they would clean the baseboards, light fixtures, pull out the couch. They did absolutely none of these things. In fact, I had to run through the house behind them to fix everything they missed. I ended up doing that every time they cleaned. They basically charge you more for the deep clean to do a regular, half-ass job.
Jude would communicate only through texts, but I would inevitably receive one before each visit. She often said the cleaners' car broke down (this was her go-to excuse, probably used it 10 times) or that they didn't have enough cleaners hired, or that one of the cleaners has allergies and can't clean because of my cat (she used this one a lot as well) and they needed to move me to Thursday, then Wednesday, then Tuesday, she even tried Monday. And the time would change. Noon one week, 3pm the next, 10am another week. She even had to skip my week and push me into the next week a few times (she gave my day away, apparently). And they were always late without notification. Not just a few minutes, I'm talking hours. Then they would leave 30-60 minutes early, but of course still charge me for the full two hours. I especially loved when they didn't bring their cleaning equipment but tried to hide that fact and do some kind of cleaning anyway. Seriously? Thanks for the sticky floors (the cleaning solution they use is terrible IMO).
I finally had enough and 'texted' Jude. They were ripping me off! Her text, 'I'm sorry, we give personalized service.' Wait what? Where's my personalized service? Why can't you drive YOUR EMPLOYEES to the job when their car breaks down? Why can't YOU pitch in when an employee quits? Why don't you monitor your employees and make sure their cleaning services are up to par? Why don't you treat me like my time and money is valuable? It is to me, that's the whole reason I hired a cleaning company.
I work at home. This was extremely disruptive to my life. I hired them to make my life easier, and all they did was stress me out, and charge me for it! I finally let them go. Wow! The relief to get that mess of a company out of my life was palpable.
I wrote a less than stellar review and put it on our neighborhood forum. Suddenly I was unindated with emails from Peter? Had never spoken to him before but I'm assuming it's Jude's husband. He seems to have a lot to say for someone who isn't involved in the business at all. Well, Jude isn't really involved either so I guess that makes sense. Still can't get these people out of my life! I'm done responding to him, I'll never let them back in my house anyway so not sure why he keeps bothering me.
I recently hired a cleaning company called MayLav. Wow! What a difference. Not only in the impeccable cleaning they do, but also the way they treat me. One of the owners always accompanies the two cleaning ladies when they come over. The owner I get, Lavender, monitors the cleaning so it's always done right, and she even kicks in to help if she sees a spot that can use a little more attention. She literally spot checks each room as it's cleaned. I've never had to finish up or re-clean anything after they've left. My kitchen and bathroom literally sparkle (didn't know my laminate countertop could even do that!).
And they value my time. During the estimate, I was all about trying to fit into their schedule. That's just what I had been used to. But no. Lavender told me many times that they would fit into MY schedule. And they did. They have never changed my day or time, and they even arrive a few minutes early!
What a difference! This is how a house cleaning should be! I'm more relaxed and I'm free to enjoy my clean house! Exactly what I had wanted in the first place!
Skip HouseSpouse unless you enjoy flushing your time and money down the toilet! MayLav is awesome! Definitely call them, you won't be disappointed.
