Today was my Mother's birthday and we bought 6 Glory Hole donuts to celebrate her special dinner. After sampling all but two, I had mixed feelings about these magical and somewhat overpriced donuts.
The best by far was the banana cream pie....great creme filing. I would definitely buy this flavour again. The pistachio and chocolate was also pretty good and you could tell that the chocolate was high quality. It totally reminded me of these chocolate glazed donuts we would get at my friend's cottage out in Innisfil from this small bakery. That place has closed since, but there is definitely a strong resemblance. Maple was very decent, but I'm not sure its worth the price as it is very low on the toppings.
The most disappointing was the Cookies and Cream. There was little topping and the dough was very plain and unflavourful. I really didn't like it at all. This donut needs some work.
Overall, six donuts for $20 is a tad too steep to pay for this "trendy" dessert. Trying them for the first time yes, but I'm not sure how many times we will eat this as the novelty will wear off after a while. I want to support this, but my wallet and my waistband can't afford it. I definitely recommend that everyone try these treats at least once.
