I have two pets who have been referred to LVVSC in the last couple of years. My 12 1/2 y/o dog, Lexi, was referred to LVVSC for a tumor in April 2015. She was seen by Dr Burr who informed me she had kidney cancer (there was a huge tumor inside her right kidney). Dr Burr suggested surgery to remove her entire right kidney and I agreed to move forward with the procedure. Her surgery was performed on May 8th and they took great care of my girl. She was actually able to come home the next day. When the pathology report came back, Dr Burr contacted me and recommended chemotherapy in an effort to resolve any other cancerous cells that may be present in her body. Due to financial reasons, I opted not to move forward with this treatment and felt horrible. Dr Burr comforted me and said the best thing I could have done for her was to have the surgery and that she is probably so much more comfortable now that she doesn't have that large tumor in her little body. I thought "Wow, what a nice thing to say". Dr Burr never pressured me into making any decisions I wasn't ready to make and that is a wonderful.
In the last few weeks my little girl started having diarrhea and was not interested in her food. I took her back to LVVSC to see Dr Burr. She ran some tests and found out that Lexi has PLE which is a bowel disease. Dr Burr came up with a treatment plan and Lexi is now on medication to regulate this new disease. Dr Burr has been so helpful and concerned for Lexi's well being that she has been working on Lexi's case via email even though she was on vacation.
Lexi is so lucky to have someone like Dr. Burr watching out for her. It has made this whole experience (even thought it's frightening) more tolerable and Dr Burr has given me hope that Lexi will be around a little while longer. Thank you so much!
