Sound Academy is a weird cross between a nightclub and a concert venue. I was not particular impressed. That may partly be because I went to an all-ages event (the performer I went to see had done an all-ages show). The venue was too big for the performer, but it seemed too big in general. The "balcony" VIP section seems like a rip-off- my friend and I were in a far better position to see the show than they were. Drinks were expensive- they are always expensive at venues like this, but they were really un-necessarily small and expensive.
It is also in the middle of nowhere. The only reason why I did (and would) come here is to see an artist that I liked, and even then, the venue would now put me off of going. I think it's trying to be a venue that wants to be a nightclub that wants to be a venue.
The only good thing was the cabs waiting outside after the show- public transit just does not feel like an option after a concert. I would recommend this rather than parking- it seemed expensive and there was no shortage of cabs.
Unimpressed!
