So today at our first visit to a Publix: the produce guy walked us to the dairy section to help her pick out free ice cream, made by the company, as a gift to first-time customers. He then excitedly told us how Publix has its own dairy, but doesn't make its own cheese...yet! Employees and customers were all super nice as we made our way through the aisles. The checkout person explained their coupon system (pretty slick, actually). During that time, the store manager came over and chatted with us while he unloaded our cart. The bagger packed our groceries, pushed the cart to our car, and unloaded the bags. When we were breaking a bill to tip him, customer service told her that Publix employees don't accept tips; the escort to the car and unloading of groceries "are all part of the service!" Our minds are officially blown.
