| - I have been coming to this family run business since they first opened their doors in Fountain Hills - that was certainly a trek from my house in Buckeye! But it was worth it for some of the taste of home. Luckily, they moved to Bell Road, and I moved to Scottsdale, so I am much happier.... but not really. The restaurant is split into the food side and the bar side. I think the owner would rather concentrate on the bar business, because I never see him on the restaurant side - and that is a shame, because the consistency of the food being delivered is pretty awful. On some days I feel like I am on the Brighton seafront, eating fish and chips just like home... on other days the food is terrible, and I would rather eat that bag'o'shite they sell at Pete's Fish'n'Chips. The Codfather needs to keep an eye on quality control - it is not acceptable to serve chips that are fried in oil that is so old that everything tastes bitter. Likewise, cod should be a flaky, white fish - on my last visit with my family 3 of the 4 cod fillets had a grey streak through the fillet that none of us could cut through. This is as close to comfort food as us Brits are going to find in the Phoenix area. However, if this was my local 'chippie' back home, I wouldn't be happy to give them my custom. With every visit I leave more and more disappointed. On a positive note, some of the other menu items are very good - the bangers and mash always catches my eye, as does the steak and kidney pie. But, if you are going to call yourself a fish and chip restaurant, then you really should get the basics right.... and this restaurant fails in this regard.
