Cineplex? hmmm... I can't even remember the last time we went and forked out a bag of cash for movies since coming to Rainbow for movie nights or -- Tuesday nights ($5) I would say. Students with a valid student ID pay $7 on other days.
How can you not go to this place for the movies? There's that carnival lighting appeal that draws you into this space along with the old-school movie showtime letterings that lends a feel of vintage authenticity while walking along market square.
As you enter those doors to this pink, lighted hue -- you feel very much at ease -- especially with the occasional busker or talented fella on the free-to-play piano captivating everybody in the lobby with thumbs ups.
It's a very different kind of review and it feels as though I'm closing my eyes and reliving each step through those front doors, onwards to the friendly smiles of the ticketing staff, down the flights of stairs admiring movie-themed murals, smelling the freshly buttered popcorn and into probably the most intimate movie cinema you can ever find in Toronto, at this price.
We're suckers for this type of charming, vintage-y experiences -- even in this modern age -- where not everyone's searching for a blockbuster kinda evening.
