| - 5 days after beloved Condo closed, my AC broke. Thinking that I'd done something, I flipped switches, reset circut breakers, replaced filters, and everything else I could think of, all to no avail. Willing to have a repair person laugh in my face that it was something that this Silly Girl was missing ("You have to turn it ON, Miss."), I called up Downsview. I called Downsview for no other reason than my condo corporation made the decision to maintain a rental HVAC within the units rather than purchasing them outright. I explained that I was having some trouble with my AC to the receptionist who directed me to a woman named Kathy. Rather, I was directed to her voicemail. She did respond to my message later that afternoon, of course while I was napping, but we were able to get in actual contact before the day was out. This was on a Thursday, and someone was to come out on Monday between 9 and noon. Fine, whatever, I just wanted my air conditioner to work again.
So, Monday comes, and someone arrived at my home at 9:30. I was very pleased with this; I hate waiting around until the very last moment of a repair window (or an hour an a half after, as was the case with the Bay and my patio furniture). That was the good. The bad? My compressor no longer compressed and I needed a new one. Great! Put one in! No, no, Miss, it needs to be ordered. Le sigh...
Two weeks later, my compressor comes in. I thought this timeline was ridiculous. Yes, not exactly Downsview's fault, but really, it's SUMMER; you know these things are going to break so order a BUNCH and be READY for compressors breaking so that your clients don't go for weeks and horrendous heat waves without any air conditioning. I was at a place where I just didn't care, I wanted it in my AC unit. Great! We're coming Wednesday morning. Sorry, no I can't be home, but thanks for organizing the appt without checking with me. Wait, now we have to organize a time to actually install it... no afternoon appointments, you say? Hmmm. This final kick in the ribs definitely assisted my way to the Meltdown of Tuesday Afternoon, but was finally organized for Thursday morning. And, again, the repairman shows up at just after 9am (to a lady in pajamas... meh), worked through the rain (I felt so horrible!) to fix my AC. Sweet, sweet conditioned air :)
All of the work WAS covered by my rental fee. Oh, yes, the rental fee... stay tuned until after I call and discuss how this is going to be addressed for July. I spent the last month in sweltering heat with NO service; this does not a rental fee (or at least a full fee) bring...
