  • I'm not a well-traveled, highly-experienced Ramen connoisseur. I've only been to one other Ramen place beside Fukumimi and I liked Fukumimi better, so this is where we like to go. So when my stepfather, the judo sensei/shinto priest who lived in Japan for over 20 years visited and asked where we should go for Ramen, I just hoped Fukumimi would live up to his standard. We were a party of 5 and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday night. It's a little tough to wait in such a crowded front area, but luckily the turnover is really fast, and really, once we sat down to eat it was totally worth it. For an appetizer, we ordered gyoza and the Kimchi. The gyoza were wrapped paper thin, crispy on one side, and piping hot. Delicious. The Kimchi was perfectly spicy and a good portion. Almost everyone in our party had something different: the Miso Tonkatsu was creamy and had a light sweetness imparted by the addition of corn, the Salt (Soy) Tonkatsu was a salty, full-bodied soup given added depth with seaweed and green onions, the Spicy Tonkatsu was medium-spicy yet still almost creamy in it's richness, and the large size (sweet) pork bowl with rice and green onions hit the spot for a heartier eater. Oh, and PERFECT eggs and tender pork belly in each bowl, my favorite part. The proteins in these Ramens just melt in your mouth. My stepdad said this is as good as any highly regarded Ramen shop in every city he lived in in Japan. He just kept saying "This is SO good!" over and over. He and my mom are in town one more week and he's jonesing for more Fukumimi one of these nights after he plays judo. So thanks for making me look good when I recommended we visit - regardless, this will always be this girl's Ramen joint. Arigato gozaimasu!
