  • Went to dinner at the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace. This is supposed to be the best buffet in Las Vegas and one of the best in America. Where they are supposed to differentiate themselves is on having many items that are plated and well-presented vs. just items where people dish out spoons for themselves. Unfortunately, they underdeliver and provide a disappointing experience. First issue here is the extremely long lines (queues) for the buffet. While they do have a system where you can go to a kiosk and get a ticket and then return to wait in line later, they really should take reservations so you can plan specific times in advance. Once you do get through the line, you pay. This is odd because you have no way to tip based on the actual service since the tip needs to be filled in on the receipt when you are paying upfront. Additionally, they are improperly asking people to provide ID with signed credit cards. With regard to the food items: - Airline chicken was very good, and came plated with a mushroom risotto. - BBQ Chinese Pork was mediocre, and was quite dry. - Plated wedge salad was excellent, so much so that I ended up getting a second one. - Crab legs, both hot and chilled, are good and they are pre-split so you don't need to deal with cracking. - Sushi was okay, but definitely not the best to be had in Las Vegas. - Fried chicken & waffle was a total joke. The waffle was a hard waffle cone, like what you would serve ice cream in. The chicken itself also was not that good. - Salad bar section was somewhat limited in choices. They did not have peppers, for example. - Italian meatballs were excellent and very flavorful. - Chilled seafood choices were good with oysters, Jonah crab claws, and shrimp. - Brisket from the carving station was excellent. This rivaled what you get in Texas. - Deserts were generally good. Miniature pecan pie and apple pie was great. Tiramisu and gelato also excellent. They have over 15 flavors of gelato / sorbet. Some of the seating at Bacchanal Buffet is also oddly positioned and has different parties/tables awkwardly close to each other. Service to bring beverages / refill was not very quick. Often we would go several minutes with empty glasses before being asked about refills or seeing someone to ask for more. One other issue is the desert area did not have chilled plates, and as a result some of the deserts with chocolate would start melting as soon as they were put plates that were hot. Additionally, for $55 there was no included alcoholic beverage at all. Other buffets will include a beer or glass of wine. The split of typical buffet fare vs. plated items was also 90% - 10%, and I was expecting to see more plated items. Also, some items were obviously mislabeled or lacking labels on the buffet. Overall, the Bacchanal Buffet is not worth going to for dinner. The quality and execution is just not there for the price. This might be worthwhile at $25, but not at $55. You're better better off at the Bellagio, Wynn, or Aria buffets.
