| - Transport back to the '60s if you dare, with that era's happening background music and black-n-white TV video clips of people sporting dippity-do flip hairstyles and slicked-back hairdos. Netted glass beach balls adorn the ceilings and when you can see again (after your eyes adjust to the dark) authentic tiki bar and grass hut accents pop up everywhere.
We stumbled in here on a Friday afternoon and it seemed fairly unoccupied, that is until we could see better and discovered that patrons were seated at most of the tables and at the bar. Oh gawd, part of the entertainment must be watching people grope their way in, trying to see in the dim. After a while, we had a few giggles watching newcomers, too.
The drinks are the true entertainers here--with names like Lava Letch, Tiki Bandit, Frankiestein and the like. We had a Fink Bomb with coconut rum,160 proof rum, melon liqueur and pineapple juice, which promised to "kick your a$$"--which it did. And we also ordered the Scurvy with rums, lime, pineapple, coconut and the perfect "kiss of sea salt" which turned the drink into an ocean water delight. I'll be happy to imbibe my Vitamin C this way, every day.
Locals and tourists would find Frankie's a nice change-up from your typical pub or bar. Just a side note that you might not want to take your newly washed hair or leather jackets in here--we came out smelling like cigarette smoke. Drinks are typically $10, but for an additional amount you can take home a souvenir glass. The drinks did not disappoint, neither did the decor. It could be kind of romantic, snuggling at the back tables, but beware that the drinks go down real easy and you might end up needing both a designated driver and chaperone!
