| - I am a US Marine Veteran and currently work in the finance business. I believe I am a victim of some deceptive and shady consumer practices done at this dealership. I went to purchase a vehicle from Tempe Dodge and Chrysler this past Memorial Day weekend. The original sales guy was very professional and great to work with. However, the experience went downhill from there when I met with the finance manager, Steve Evansky. Steve was being extremely pushy when it came to selling the warranty and other add ins, which I kept declining. As an underwriter, I picked up on his tactics. He was being misleading and his math was wrong when he was making his pitch. We ended up signing the documents and I stood my ground on not purchasing the warranty or gap. I got a call back from Steve on Wednesday, stating the "bank", Chrysler Capital, will not approve my loan without getting these options. I found this to be odd due to the fact that I put down $8000(approx. 20-25%). Therefore, I asked why gap and warranty was required. I got a very vague and unprofessional answer. I started to ask more questions and Steve became angry and defensive. I asked to speak with Steve's boss and got a call back from someone named AD I believe, who said he was the store owner and treated me even worse. I decided to call the bank myself. Chrysler Capital stated they had no application on file for me and "we would never make you buy the options. This is the buyers choice."
I believe the people who work at this dealership prey on customers who purchase vehicles using their financing by making them believe the banks will not give the financing unless purchasing thousands in add-ons that are not required or per other yelp reviews to fraudulent tactics. This sounds like a violation of consumer protection laws and bait and switch. Based on other Yelp reviews, this dealership is using other tactics as well to take advantage of customers which I am reaching out to those customers informing them they had fraud or deceptive practices done to them if they do not know. This dealership is committing deceptive/nfair/misleading practices, DO NOT BUT FROM THEM. I hope nobody else ever falls victim to this. I am currently seeking legal help and a media investigation. I have filed a BBB complaint, FTC complaint for the Military Consumer Protection and the AZ Attorney General.
6/2 update- I tried calling Ms. Frye as instructed. I could not get through to her line. I could not even be connected to the receptionist, the phone kept going to a lady named Patti Dirks who I have never spoken with before.
The info provided in the reply is exactly why I had to file complaints. I know the options are not required, that is the issue. Everything was fine until I asked for the conditional approval letter from the bank stating they were requiring me to purchase gap and he warranty and any other conditions. Like you said I'm an underwriter, I trust but I verify. I was told "we don't do that, I've worked here 10 years and never provided a conditional approval to a customer" and the gentleman's boss stated the same thing. In fact on the call I received from the boss, he told me he'd get the documents I was requesting and call me back. That never happened. I got a call from Steve the next day stating he misspoke and I was not required to purchase gap but still was saying I needed to get the warranty with the deal. Oh well it did not workout and that's fine, I just wanted to get info out there. I still found it odd he asked for all my copies of the documents for the transaction... why is that required? I did give it to him but I have copies at home so it was ok with me. I am not seeking any legal representation because you refunded my down payment in full and took the vehicle back without any issues.
