| - I got a rental on Hotwire for $19.99/day. I arrived very late (like, midnight) and the Rental Car Center was empty. The Alamo counter is hard to find -- the signage isn't as good as for other car rental companies. Two ladies were there, and one was more interested in talking about getting off work at 1 a.m. than helping me. The other lady pointed me to one of the automated kiosks to get my rental car, even though not another customer was to be found in their place. It was late, I was tired and sleepy, and ready to make quick work of getting the rental, getting on the road, and getting in the bed. By using the kiosk, it took me much longer to get out of there than if they'd helped me directly.
Anyway, I got a silver Ford Focus...it was fine for tooling around town for a couple days...good gas mileage and A/C (which, in Arizona in August, is key).
Bottom line: If it's a matter of only a couple dollars a day, rent from one of Alamo's big brothers instead.
