| - Ok, so I live down the street from Wet and Wild and have season passes, but we bought the groupon for Cowabunga Bay because we wanted to try it out. Short review, the kids MUCH prefer Cowabunga Bay, and are begging for season passes there next year. I also liked it better, the hubby didn't care, lol!
I actually did not end up riding water slides that day, wasn't into it, but both the kids said they are much better than Wet and Wild. I did do the Lazy River and Wave Pool and I personally thought they were both better also. I liked the huge entry area into the Lazy River and it seemed much wider to me and had cooler things spraying all over :-) and the waves in the Wave Pool were WAY better!
Part of what I liked about this park, although probably part of what the park itself would not be happy about, is it wasn't nearly as busy as Wet and Wild. I didn't feel like I had to fight for spots in the shade and something I LOVED was their chairs are tied together with a metal band so people can't move them around. When we get a shady spot at Wet and Wild everyone and their brother moves their chairs RIGHT NEXT (in front, behind, to the side) to you to get some of the shade and it is crazy rude and uncomfortable. Cowabunga Bay seems to have eliminated this problem and I could kiss them for it!!
I also noticed they have a ton more food options and their food is cheaper. We got pizza, fries, pretzels and corn dogs between all of us and everything was good. The lines for food were SO much better than Wet and Wild and the staff was way more on top of it!
I really feel like this is a much more complete park too. I know they ended up pushing back their opening in the beginning and I think it helped. It just looks and feels like a real water park and less like a blown up version of a rec center. It was also VERY clean, and (I hate to keep mentioning it, but it is really the only comparison) MUCH cleaner than Wet and Wild. Plus at the risk of sounding like a jerk, the people were nicer, classier and less rude. Wet and Wild is FULL of people swearing at their kids (seriously), throwing their garbage everywhere, and just being unbelievably rude and self centered, and I saw none of that at Cowabunga Bay.
I will admit that many of the positive things could be negatively affected if they had the crowds Wet and Wild does. I am sure they want to be that busy and whether or not they could keep up the cleanliness, short lines, and lots of spots in the shade with 3 times the crowd would be hard to predict. That said, I think they may have won me over even though they are 20 miles away. The experience was just SO much better!
