| - Quality: As it has been recently rebuilt, everything inside is brand new. The theater screens are all digital if I'm not mistaken, and the sound in the theaters is incredible. I find the BigD theater to be superior to IMAX. The Dolby ATMOS surround sound is worth the experience. If you didn't want to spend the money for the IMAX films but want the best possible viewing experience, the BigD is worth the few extra bucks.
Price: The price for an evening ticket is about $9.75, which is comparable to the Savoy 16 down the road. Luckily, they offer student discounts and matinee prices to help curb the cost. The best advice is to go between 4pm and 5:30pm to get tickets for only $5.50. In one week, I was able to see Lone Survivor, The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, and American Hustle for around twenty bucks. Definitely recommend taking advantage of this! They also offer beers and wines for around $5, which isn't terrible at all for an alcoholic beverage. The popcorn and combos are what you'd expect from other movie theaters, but if you plan on coming often (especially for the discount early evening tickets), the $19 bucket will get you $3.75 refills. It takes awhile to break even, but again, it's worth it if you plan on being a repeat customer.
Atmosphere: The theater, being recently rebuilt, looks fantastic. Simply put, they designed this theater extremely well. They separated the popcorn area from the concession area, helping speed up your ticket purchasing process. The popcorn here is the best I've ever had at a movie theater. They also offer beers and wines for around $5, which isn't terrible at all.
Location. The theater is located north on Prospect Ave., which can be busy and have heavy traffic depending on what time you attend. Be sure to plan accordingly. There is plenty of parking available, but I tend to find parking in the back of the lot when it's prime time. I've never had to drive around to find a spot though, which is still better than other theaters I've went to.
Consistency: Aside from the quality of the theater screens, everything has been perfect every time.
Final Thoughts: I love the Carmike 13, and while it's hard to place why I enjoy it much more than the similar Savoy 16, I find that they have little details that make the theater experience worthwhile. Self service Coke machines, alcohol available, multiple bathrooms located throughout, and the discounted tickets make Carmike 13 my favorite theater in town.
