| - Do not expect brokers to actually help resolve landlord issues.
I received horrible service from none other than Albert Anthony himself. He served as a broker for myself and two of my friends to rent a house in Greenfield. Our landlord, Mark Bruk, was as unprofessional as landlords come--seriously, no one ever rent from him. 1111 Greenfield Ave should stand vacant for the rest of eternity because no one is bad enough to deserve to live there.
The rent was cheap, which is why we chose the house, despite it being obviously old and sort of decrepit. We gave the landlord a list of issues with the house when we moved in, specifically so that we would not be charged for them when it came time to move out.
Throughout the time that we lived there Mr. Bruk repeatedly ignored our maintenance requests--including for things that he now has tried to deduct from our security deposit--most notably ignoring our frantic calls and emails when, in mid-February of the Polar Vortex, our heat quit working and our pipes froze. This was ignored for over three weeks. Only one sink between the 2 bathrooms and the kitchen worked, and temperatures in our house fell to under 45 degrees. When he finally acknowledged the problem, it was to come over and lend me a space heater and assure me the problem would be fixed the next day.
During this, Mr. Anthony was mostly kind (except the 3 or 4 times he got frustrated and hung up on me), but completely ineffective in actually brokering any sort of understanding between the landlord and us, the tenants. I wouldn't have even minded if he had hung up on me as long as he actually did any part of his actual job.
All in all, I had a very horrible experience with this company. Perhaps there are other brokers/landlords working here who know what they are doing, but when the company is named for the man I experienced this abysmal service from, I would warn others to steer clear of Albert Anthony Real Estate.
And DO NOT rent at 1111 Greenfield Ave. You WILL regret it.
