| - Place usually seems to charge a bit more than most downtown hotels ... after a night here I'm not sure why.
Initially the lobby looks nice and the room looks a cut above the usually older and beat-up downtown properties, but housekeeping appeared to be rushing and cutting corners -- they changed the bed but one of the back pillows still had hair on it, the spare blanket they use as a runner for the bed (??) left a bunch of hair when lifted indicating they don't change it between guests, bathroom sink area had stains they didn't quite get up, desk chair had old dark stains that could have either been food or blood (vinyl so it could have been wiped -- they just didn't), and food spatter on the wall behind the computer desk area. That all got me looking around more and I found chunks of food and candy wrappers underneath the little sofa. Altogether not enough to demand another room after a late check-in but unacceptable, with all the competition Vegas hotels usually do strive to make sure they are clean even at the budget end. As my Australian buds would say this place is "a bit grotty."
Also, most rooms have flimsy conjoining doors ... the rooms that face Fremont Street aren't as loud as being right on it but they're still pretty loud, I had to use the room fan plus my white noise machine on a very high volume to get to sleep.
Food -- Oscar's is supposed to be some big deal but too expensive for me. That leaves a slightly overpriced McDonalds, Subway and Mexican place. Thpppt.
Gaming Floor --- Who cares. Didn't even look. Bunch of squirrely people smoking cigarettes I'm sure.
They give you a thick coupon book at check in but it's 95% useless crap, basically a big waste of paper. Only stayed because I came in late on a Greyhound and wanted a place within a quick walk to roll my stuff to. Golden Gate has older smaller rooms but they don't have conjoining doors, are clean and there's less Fremont noise, so that's a better choice. Will probably try the Golden Nugget next if this situation pops up again but not doing this one anymore.
(side note - the hotel room has a bunch of furniture that's identical to stuff they have at the Sands in Reno! I know Terrible's used to own that one, did they have a spell with this place too?)
