I called first because according to google maps, it looked like this place was in Mesa which is where I was headed. I wanted to drop off my beloved sewing machine for a going over. The man on the phone asked how long it had been since my sewing machine had been tuned up. I could not recall. He said if it was more than 4 or 5 years, the cost would be $139. He told me they were located at Ray and Arizona, next to Food City and had been there 38 years.
When I arrived about an hour later, the man behind the counter asked me what I had been sewing and if it was heavy fabric. It was not. He told me I had the wrong needle in my machine (OK, that's possible. I told him I had not used it in a while and wanted it tuned up so it would be in tip top shape.) He told me the Singer needle should never be used in my Elna machine. I'll need to research that. Honestly, I doubt that is true.
I bought my machine in Indiana from a store that only sold and repaired sewing machines. This store was full of vacuum cleaners with the sewing machines in the corner. I love my machine. I have been very happy with it.
Then he proceeded to tell me that the gear might be broken and it wasn't worth repairing. I am still shocked. I will take my machine apart myself and take a look. What a jerk. I was heartbroken. Needless to say, I did not trust this person enough to leave my machine with him. He was incredibly rude. He asked me if I didn't like honesty and said we were done.
This is why small businesses go out of business.
