| - MY NIGHTMARE MOVE-12-10-10!
I was very impressed with the ratings that Warren's Homework received, both on-line (I researched several sites) and by our family, who has used them several times to move homes. My initial meeting with the company was impressive. They came out to my house to give me a free assessment. They discussed how they use trained movers, take special classes for moving refrigerators, will stack boxes based on what is written on them- i.e. fragile, etc. I expected all of these things to happen. I have newly purchased Italian leather furniture that I was very concerned about. I was told it would be wrapped and moved with the utmost care. Well, that was not true at all.
From the beginning, the workers moved fast, almost too fast. I saw furniture (lightly wrapped with some thin, almost plastic wrap) being whipped on its side and run out the door which concerned me from the beginning. I heard 2 workers discuss with the other 2 how they were temporary workers and wished they had moving skills like the others (the other two used straps to carry heavy pieces). That really alarmed me because the two untrained guys were moving some important pieces of mine. I almost gasped when I saw my Italian leather couch (UNWRAPPED) being run into the door handle! SERIOUSLY? Surprisingly it was not ripped--ONLY the cream leather was dirty when it arrived at my new house----I had to wipe it off. I asked them why the couch wasn't wrapped and they said they wrapped it in the truck! I found that odd since a bunch of dirt was on it!
My husband and I told them the gate was narrow and when we got our refrigerator installed the refrigerator doors had to be removed to get the refrigerator through the gate. They assured us they didn't need to do this and wrapped it with a cloth. As they were moving it out, we heard a CRUNCH. When it arrived at our new house---dents...several dents...too many to count! The door is sticking too. To make matters worse, the guy who claimed to not know plumbing (that's what he said- "I don't know plumbing") undid the cap to the water line to hook up the refrigerator to make ice! He couldn't get it to stop leaking. It turns out that they left the hoses to hook up the ice maker at our old house. The guy who said he didn't know plumbing only told my husband this after he uncapped the water line (BTW he was one of the untrained temporary workers). So the crew left our house. We called the main office and said we had a leak and that our refrigerator was dented, probably beyond repair. They gave us such a hard time to send someone to look at the leak! They said it was our fault if we had a leak! We explained that they did something to the hose! After several calls and arguments, they agreed to send someone out to check the hose. They also told us an assessor would come out Monday or Tuesday to look at our damaged refrigerator. It's Wednesday--we have not heard back from them!
Upon them leaving, we found several fragile boxes under 6 stacked boxes labeled books! I haven't the heart to open some of these! I expect things will be bad. We also found small chips in the furniture that was barely wrapped and flipped on its side! I was so upset with the dirty couch, ruined refrigerator, and leak that I didn't check other things as closely as I should have. Wow, I have never been so disappointed!
