We had wanted to see some sights around the area without our son feeling obligated to accompany us when he was very busy. This was a great choice for us to become more familiar with the history and the background of Charlotte and a president that is relatively unknown to us.
We arrived just in time to go on a guided tour of the grounds. It is known that the buildings are replicas of what would have been appropriate for the era. Our guide was very welcoming and well informed. She shared that she was a history major and enjoyed being a guide. She told us about the food preparations, building the cabin, and generally how hard life was for the pioneers. Also, she answered a variety of questions from the group. After the tour, we return to the museum to look at the different artifacts and displays.
This museum is free admission but does accept donations. There was a calendar of events and classes that if we lived in the area, I would have been interested in attending. This was a very satisfying way to spend an afternoon.
