I'm offering 1 star based on a 'special' Home Depot is offering on flooring installation. I'm assuming their work/craftsmanship would have been acceptable. I don't know for sure because as much as I wanted to get this project over with, I couldn't bring myself to see this special as anything but a bit 'scam-like' :(
The special said: $498.00 for installation of laminate flooring in a space 1000 sq ft or less. Removing existing carpet/ flooring would be extra. My space is 800 sq ft and I had a local handyman pull the existing flooring.
Second part of the 'special' required I purchase laminate from them that was over a certain price ($2.59/sqft)
That was fine, was a bit more than the laminate I had picked but I was fine with trading up a bit and getting the required laminate-- happy to do it.
At time to close the deal :
Materials $2300.
Installation: $1500.
What happened to $498?
They were very nice in explaining the additions installation steps that bumped the 'special' $498 price up $1000 to total $1500.00
To top it off, the contract advertised that I had received the $498 installation special which they boasted normally sells for $1500.00!
Ummmm, ok... So I'm paying $1500.00 for a $498 special that is usually $1500.00.
Just doesn't seem like an honest representation.
