| - I took my 12 year old in here on a dead weekday afternoon, because I figured I could count on a higher level of precision than you can get at a supercuts-type place.
I have to say that the haircut turned out ok--I mean, it's nothing special, but it was ok. But the overall vibe of the place was really negative. It was like there was a contest to see who could communicate in grunts instead of words and the barber cutting the kiddo's hair seemed to be intentionally sullen and rude. I don't know if these guys were pissy because I was a chick in their domain or what, but I see a lot of other reviews on here talking about similar attitudes, so it must just kinda be the norm.
When we walked in, there was one guy getting a cut and three barbers sitting in their chairs watching tv. There was hair ALL over the floor, which is unusual based on the spic and span barber shops I've been in previously.
And MAN were they dead. When we came in, one guy asked if we had an appointment and I said no and he waved me over to this other barber. The phone rang a few minutes later and the guy who 'greeted' us was really rude to the dude on the other end. There was some conversation about whether or not the guy was supposed to make an appointment (see--I wasn't the only one who was confused!) and the barber got really snarky and then made fun of the guy when he hung up. I chimed in, saying that I thought all barber shops were walk-in only, and the first dude looks at the others and says, "Huh--maybe that's another reason we are so dead." They all kind of shrugged like nobody was going to take note or make it clear on signage or FB page or anything--just like they didn't care.
When it came time to pay, I pulled out a credit card (because that's all I ever use) and I got told that they don't accept them. Fortunately I had cash with me. It might have been nice to know that before I came in....or, I don't know, come into the 21st century and get a credit card machine or a card reader for an iPhone maybe?
I don't know. Maybe I have jacked up expectations, but it didn't leave me with a burning desire to go back there. If you don't mind a grungy floor and some attitude, it's probably fine. But I am somebody who is nice to customers all day every day and I guess I just expect a minimum of that in return.
