  • Following recommendation on Check Please Arizona on PBS we decided to give it a try for lunch. Went yesterday and learned that they use MSG very liberally even in their peanut sauce, egg rolls and fried rice. Both my husband and are extremely sensitive to MSG and as I could see no mention of their use or non-use of MSG on the menu and the fact that the hot and sour soup just didn't look right when it arrived I asked and was told that the hot and sour soup did contain MSG but the waiter said he would bring me a bowl of hot and sour soup without MSG - after hearing the kitchen staff yelling at the waiter for bringing back the soup I did not receive a non-MSG soup! We ordered from the all inclusive lunch menu + an order of their fresh (that's a joke!) spring rolls with tempura shrimp - they were so rubbery you just couldn't eat them plus they were mostly lettuce and noodles and a tiny little tempura shrimp which was hard to taste) and were also told by the waiter that the peanut sauce he brought with them contained MSG. The egg rolls which came with the lunch were delivered and we were advised again that they contained MSG - again no alternative/substitute was offered. The entrée was delivered I had Pad Thai Chicken and it looked like the food had been thrown haphazardly on the plate - presentation and flavor poor at best. My husband had kung pao shrimp and there was lots of zucchini and very little shrimp - again food just thrown on the plate. Lastly on the entrée, before delivering, waiter advised that the ordered fried rice also contained MSG and actually offered an alternative of steamed brown or white rice - we chose brown and noticed on the bill that we were charged an additional $ amount for that, but no credit for all the other items we couldn't eat because of the MSG. The service was just OK, but disappointed with the lack of knowledge of the waiter as far as what did or did not contain MSG. This is a restaurant we will never (and I don't say never too often!) dine at again nor could I ever recommend it.
